Sony to release 4K Blu-ray player in 2017 (and no, it’s not inside the PS4 Pro)

Sony recently announced it will produce a 4K-capable Blu-ray player, available for purchase in 2017.

The UBP-X1000ES should be ready for shipment in Autumn 2017, but will only be available through custom installers initially.

There do not appear to be plans to integrate the player as part of an iterated PS4 Pro, which has garnered criticism for a lack thereof. The Xbox One S is capable of 4K Blu-ray playback.
