Sony registers trademarks for PS6, PS7, PS8, PS9, PS10

The PS5 is scheduled for a release in the 2020 holiday season, but that hasn’t stopped Sony from looking ahead. Far ahead. The company has recently filed trademarks for the next five iterations of PlayStation beyond that: the PS6, PS7, PS8, PS9 and PS10.

The five new trademarks were first spotted by trademark reporter Piercesword, who also noted down when current PS trademarks were filed:

  • PS2: 1999 application for 2000 release
  • PS3: 2005 application for 2006 release
  • PS4: 2006 application for 2013 release
  • PS5: 2006 application for 2020 release

Looks like Sony’s future-proofing, eh? Just because the applications have been made mean that Sony will ever produce a PlayStation 10 — but it’s a surefire way of making sure the branding is unavailable to everyone else.

The PS5 is expected in holiday 2020 and already boasts features like a 4K Blu-ray drive and haptic feedback contollers.
