Sony reduces price of undersupported PlayStation VR2

Hurrah?

Sony has reduced the price of its undersupported PlayStation VR2 virtual reality peripheral, saying “it’s never been a better time to jump into the action” despite a lack of new first-party title announcements.

In the United States, the headset has dropped from $549.99 USD to $399.99 USD. PS VR2 bundles with Horizon Call of the Mountain will be made available at that same price point: $399.99 USD.

New confirmed pricing in other regions includes €449.99 (Europe), £399.99 (Great Britain), and ¥66,980 (Japan). We’ve reached out to Sony for local pricing, though we’re unlikely to hear back.

In a blog post, Sony specified, “the starting date of the new prices and bundle availability may vary by country/region, so be sure to check your local retailer for details.”

We reviewed the PlayStation VR2 unit here.

In it, Jay said, “while I really love the VR2 and don’t for a moment regret paying for one at launch, I can’t in good conscience recommend others pony up so much cash at this early stage. When an inevitable pre-Christmas price drop happens this year or next — and assuming some well-priced, quality titles are released or make their way on to the PS+ games library — the PSVR2 will become a must buy.”

This could be the price reduction Jay was after.
