Sony raising price of PlayStation Plus subscriptions starting September

Update: Here's what prices Aussies are facing.

Sony will raise the price of PlayStation Plus subscriptions starting next month, it has recently revealed.

Update: We’ve now learned how PlayStation Plus price increases impact Australians — at the lowest level (Essential), Aussies will pay $20 AUD more. At the highest level (Deluxe), Aussies will be expected to pay $42 AUD more than before.

Here’s what a host of regions will soon pay for the service.

  • PlayStation Plus Essential (12-Month Subscription)
    • $95.95 AUD
    • $79.99 USD
    • 71,99 Euro
    • 59.99 GBP
    • 6,800 Yen
  • PlayStation Plus Extra (12-Month Subscription)
    • $169.95 AUD
    • $134.99 USD
    • 125,99 Euro
    • 99.99 GBP
    • 11,700 Yen
  • PlayStation Plus Deluxe (12-Month Subscription)
    • $196.95 AUD
  • PlayStation Plus Premium (12-Month Subscription)
    • 159.99 USD
    • 151,99 Euro
    • 119.99 GBP
    • 13,900 Yen

Original story: For comparison, current prices are $59.99 USD for Essential (an increase of $20 USD), $99.99 USD for Extra (an increase of $35 USD) and $119.99 USD for Premium (an increase of $40 USD). Price changes come into effect from 6 September (or whatever renewal date you have that falls after 6 September).

“The new prices for the 12-Month subscription will remain at a discounted rate when compared to purchasing the 1-Month or 3-Month subscriptions over a 12-month period,” Sony added.

Here in Australia, we don’t have the Premium tier as it’s also tied to PlayStation Now-style streaming which we don’t have access to. Instead, we have a tier called Deluxe… which is reflected in the information above.

What do you make of the price increase?
