Sony pushing outdated ads, news to PS5 Home screen

And users aren't happy.

Sony’s latest PS5 update has pushed a series of outdated ads and news pieces related to the games you play, and users aren’t happy.

“So it turns out that the recent PS5 UI update that let you disable all the advertisements on the dashboard was too good to be true,” wrote alfredobofa on Twitter. “Now EVERY SINGLE GAME on your homescreen shows you an advertisement in the background with no way to remove them lol.”

The user attached several examples, including the one we’ve placed above. In it, the tile for Star Wars Battlefront 2 displays an ad for Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order and Star Wars Squadrons, proclaiming, “Happy Star Wars Day!” at the same time. In case you’re playing at home, Star Wars Day takes place in May. May the fourth, to be exact.

“This update sucks,” added cheer_up_crewcut over on Reddit. “Gone is the nice artwork when you hover over the game, and you just get the stupid news articles instead. Some of them are really low-res too and it looks really ugly. Makes the home screen look terrible.”

Have you received the new PS5 update yet? If so, what do you make of changes to your Home screen?

Update: Sony has called this a “tech error” that’s since been fixed.

“A tech error with the Official News feature on the PS5 console has since been resolved,” Sony said on Twitter. “There have been no changes to the way game news is displayed on PS5.”
