Sony increases PS5 production for launch, new reports suggest

Sony will step up PS5 production for launch, new reports from Bloomberg and Nikkei suggest.

The report suggests Sony will aim to produce 9-10 million consoles rather than the original target of 5-6 million (as alleged by another Bloomberg report earlier in the year that cited a high production cost).

The increased production target is as a result of demand driven by those who are required to remain at home in the midst of the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic.

We still don’t have a set release date — or price for the PS5 (nor the Xbox Series X for that matter) — but the consoles are both expected for a “holiday 2020” launch. We’ll keep you informed as we learn more.
