Sony files takedown against Aussie-made Bloodborne 60FPS patch

Is an official announcement coming?

Sony has filed a takedown notice against a Bloodborne 60FPS patch made by Aussie YouTuber Lance McDonald.

“On February 21st, 2021, I created and released a patch for Bloodborne which makes the game run at 60fps,” McDonald wrote on Twitter. “[On 1 February] I received a DMCA takedown notification on behalf of Sony Interactive Entertainment asking that I remove links to the patch I posted on the internet, so I’ve now done so.”

McDonald added that, “[it’s] worth noting that my Bloodborne 60fps patch which Sony requested I remove from my pages was the platform-agnostic version of the patch. It was the version used on PS4, PS5, and the PC emulator. It doesn’t contain any copyright infringing content, it is a ‘patcher’.”

As for the reasons why Sony has issued the takedown notice? The publisher hasn’t said, though both McDonald believes it’s because an official announcement of a remaster or remake is on the way.

My copium theory is that Sony DMCAed the 60fps patch and the video about the Bloodborne demake so that when they announce a 60fps remake, google searching for “bloodborne 60fps” and “Bloodborne remake” won’t have collisions with our fan projects,” he wrote, adding, “Let me cope.”

Bloodborne is currently available on PS4.
