Sony ends PS3 production in Japan

Sony has ceased manufacturing of the PS3 in Japan, the company today confirmed.

The news was announced on the official Japanese PlayStation website (thanks, Gematsu). Shipments have “ended”, meaning manufacturing has as well. There’s no word on when the same will occur in the west.

It was rumoured that PS3 manufacturing would soon end back in March; looks like they weren’t too far from the truth.

The PS3 was released in November 2006; Sony promised to support it for ten years, so it has easily kept its word.
