Sony details the new PlayStation VR2 user experience

Strap on that headset with some new assurances.

Sony has today detailed the PlayStation VR2 user experience, providing players with an idea of what they can expect when the peripheral (eventually) becomes available.

First, the unit will provide players with a see-through feature that will broadcast a forward-facing view inside the PlayStation VR2 unit itself, making it perfect to find and strap on controllers after your headset is in place.

“Thanks to PS VR2’s embedded front cameras, users can press the function button on the headset, or use the Card in the Control Center, to switch between viewing your surroundings, or viewing the content on PS VR2. The Card in the Control Center also gives quick access to other PS VR2 settings, such as adjusting your play area,” Sony said of the feature.

Sony also added that “the see-through view is just for viewing only, so there’s no recording option.”

Next, Sony advised that the PlayStation VR2 will use embedded cameras and VR2 Sense controllers to map out your play space, making it just a little safer to throw your arms and legs around blindly when playing.

“While playing, if you get close to the boundary you have set up, you will receive a warning that you are closely approaching the play area boundary,” Sony said. “You can modify your settings at any time while PS VR2 is connected. Once you set up your play area, the settings will be saved unless you move into a different play area.”

Finally, Sony advised that players will be able to broadcast their own image on top of gameplay, making the feature perfect for services like Twitch.

We’ll have more on PlayStation VR2 as it is made available. You can read more on the unit here.
