Sony considering buy-in alpha sales models for PlayStation platforms

It’s hard to deny the success — or appeal — of Minecraft. Sony hasn’t, and has even gone as far as to suggest that the game’s buy-in alpha scheme might be adopted for use on the PlayStation Network.

Speaking with Joystiq, VP of Publisher and Developer Relations at Sony America, Adam Boyes said, “if [a game] doesn’t have any bugs that are completely destroying the world,” they’d consider selling it to gamers ahead of full completion, much like Minecraft or any number of titles in Steam’s new “Early Access” scheme.

“[Dust 514] is a great example of putting out content that you know is not final,” Boyes continued. “If you want to monetize it, that’s fine. I mean, if you want to put out a game that’s playable and does pass the checklists and stuff, you can. If it doesn’t sell and you can’t support, you may not want to support, but we absolutely support that.”

It’s definitely working for games like Minecraft and ARMA III, so why not for games on the PS3, PS4, or PS Vita?
