Sony cancels two live service games, including God of War from Bluepoint

And something from Bend Studio.

Sony has cancelled two live service games, including a God of War title from Bluepoint and another unnamed project from Days Gone‘s Bend Studio.

The news comes by way of Bloomberg, which states that a Sony spokesperson has today confirmed the cancelations.

While Sony confirm the cancellations wouldn’t equal studio closures, it wasn’t as clear about individual positions. The publisher did say it is “working closely with Bend and Bluepoint to determine what are the next projects and plan to do everything we can to ensure there is minimal business impact.”

While we know that Bluepoint, a successful porting studio acquired by Sony back in 2021, was working on a God of War live service title, it’s unclear what Bend Studio was working on.

Speaking with Kinda Funny, former president of Sony Interactive Entertainment Worldwide Studios Shuhei Yoshida said he would have avoided dipping the company’s toes into the trend of live service games.

“If the company was considering [going] that way, it probably didn’t make sense to stop making another God of War or single-player game, and put all the money into the live service games,” he said as part of the interview.

We’ll report back as more is known.
