Sonic the Hedgehog redesign coming, says film’s director

The director of the Sonic the Hedgehog movie says the lead character will be redesigned as a result of fan outcry following the film’s first trailer.

“Thank you for the support. And the criticism,” Director Jeff Fowler wrote on Twitter. “The message is loud and clear… you aren’t happy with the design & you want changes. It’s going to happen. Everyone at Paramount & Sega are fully committed to making this character the BEST he can be…”

Fowler also added the hashtag #GottaFixFast to his tweet.

While the change itself is welcome news — because let’s face it, no one’s liked how Sonic has look since an initial leak back in December last year — we can’t help but think of all the animators who’ll be putting in massive overtime ahead of the film’s release in September.

Already, artists have taken to Twitter to show off how Sonic can be improved — we’ve included our two favourites below.

Sonic the Hedgehog heads to theatres on 8 November.
