Sonic creator Yuji Naka pleads guilty to insider trading charges

Sonic the Hedgehog creator Yuji Naka has plead guilty to charges of insider trading, Denfa Minico Gamer reports.

Naka’s guilty plea came during his first trial on Thursday 2 March, held at the Tokyo District Court.

The developer is alleged to have purchased 2.8 million yen of stock of Dragon Quest Tact developer Aiming, using advanced knowledge that the studio was working on the game ahead of an official announcement. Naka was working with publisher Square Enix at the time, developing Balan Underworld.

“There is no doubt that I knew the facts about the game before it was made public and bought the stock,” Naka said as part of his plea.

Naka was arrested over the charges back in November of last year, and indicted in December.
