Nintendo CEO Tatsumi Kimishima replaced by Shuntaro Furukawa

Nintendo CEO Tatsumi Kimishima (above right) will step down from his role and will be replaced by Shuntaro Furukawa (above left), the publisher has announced.

The Wall Street Journal reports that Kimishima, 68, will step down as Nintendo CEO in June, satisfied he’s launched the company’s latest console, the Switch, successfully. Kimishima isn’t retiring, but will take on a small role as an advisor to Furukawa. Kimishima has held the position of CEO since 2015, after the passing of Satoru Iwata.

Furukawa, 46, has been with Nintendo since 1994 and currently serves as a board member for both Nintendo and The Pokemon Company.

Nintendo also announced that Nintendo Europe President, Satoru Shibata, will leave his role to take on international responsibilities. Additionally, both Yoshiaki Koizumi and Takashi Tezuka have joined Nintendo’s board of directors.
