Shadow of War: Xbox One X beats PS4 Pro, says Digital Foundry

Middle-earth: Shadow of War shows “profound improvements” on Xbox One X as compared to Sony’s PS4 Pro, Digital Foundry has detailed.

The tech-savvy site says the Xbox One X’s 12GB of GDDR5 memory is capable of handling Shadow of War‘s 4K texture pack, while the added power of the PS4 Pro cannot. The result leads to lower-res textures on Sony’s console that “stick out like a sore thumb” on an Ultra HD display.

“It’s the radically improved art that most obviously sets Xbox One X apart from PS4 Pro, but Monolith’s approach to 4K textures likely won’t apply to every game,” the site concluded.

Digital Foundry says the Xbox One X also offers better draw distances than PS4 Pro. Moreover, the site praised the fact that the Xbox One X offers dynamic resolution as proposed to a hard-set offering on PS4 Pro.

As you’d expect, Digital Foundry goes into considerable detail — you can read the site’s full report here.

Middle-earth: Shadow of War is available now on Windows PC, Xbox One and PS4. The Xbox One X heads to stores next month.
