Sea of Thieves has its first Pirate Legend

Sea of Thieves has its first Pirate Legend — a sailor who’s reached Level 50 in all three factions — and fellow players aren’t amused.

Twitch streamer Prod1gyX is the first to claim the accolade, though has done so on the backs of his viewers, who’ve put in the hard yards (and hours) to source chests, skulls and kills.

Sea of Thieves players took to Twitter to voice their displeasure.

“Prod1gyX should not be rewarded anything for hitting pirate legend,” user EyeOfTheProphet wrote. “Even if you do give it to him nobody in the community is going to consider him the first. If you do make a captain pirate make his nickname ‘Prodigy The Cheat’.”

Despite the controversy, we now know what’s required to become a Pirate Legend. Once you’ve hit level 50 in all three factions, you’ll need to solve a new riddle that includes a shanty outside the back of a tavern. From there, you’ll see glowing cobblestones that lead to a special, hidden area under the tavern itself.

Inside the new area is a space full of Pirate Ghosts, Pirate Legend customisation items and legendary voyages. The voyages themselves open up a fourth in-game faction, Athena’s Fortune.

What do you make of the first Pirate Legend?

Sea of Thieves is available now on Windows PC and Xbox One.
