Overwatch: Latest PTR patch hints at the return of Summer Games event (and Doomfist!)

Overwatch‘s latest Public Test Server (PTR) patch is named after a returning event and a highly anticipated character.

Redditors took to Notepad to delve into the latest patch, uncovering its name: 1.13.0.0 Doomfist/Summer Games.

The build being used in PTR is called "1.13.0.0 Doomfist / Summer Games" according to crash logs from Overwatch

In the immortal words of Lucio, let’s break it down.

First, the Summer Games reference suggests that we’ll see the return of Overwatch‘s Summer Games event. Easy, right? The event first took place in August 2016, timed for the Rio Summer Olympic Games. It came with new skins, emotes, Achievements and the introduction of a new Lucio game mode, likened to football. This 2017 event appears to be a chance to mop up on what players missed the last time.

Next, another reference to Doomfist, a new character that’s been rumoured for months — and potentially voiced by Terry Crews, if he gets his way. Hey — it worked in Crackdown 3, right?

We’ll have more on either topic as it becomes available.

Overwatch is currently available on Windows PC, Xbox One and PS4. The game is currently in the midst of its fifth competitive season.
