Counter-Strike 2 (and playable beta) rumoured for this month

What?

Counter-Strike sequel — perhaps titled Counter-Strike 2 — is rumoured for an announcement later this month. According to additional reports, a playable demo might also drop sometime this month.

Reports seem to stem from a recent NVidia leak in which new executable files called “cs2” and “csgo2” were discovered.

Following on from tweets from Counter-Strike leakers, journalist Richard Lewis alleges that “a new version of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive [is] on its way” and is “almost certainly set to be released under the working title of Counter-Strike 2“.

Lewis continued on to say that he expects “the tentative release date for the beta is in this month of March with April 1st at the outside.”

Not everyone agrees, however; several sources say that Valve is merely testing a version of Counter-Strike on Source 2.

Source 2 is happening; it’s a real thing with it’s own executable ‘csgos2.exe’,” wrote Aquarius on Twitter. “‘cs2.exe’ is old and irrelevant, your skins are safe, no separate games are being made.”

“I’ve got fairly reliable information that Valve has been testing CS:GO on Source 2 with the help of third-party QA companies in the US and EU since at least early December,” gabefollower added. “I can’t confirm this 100 per cent, but it’s decent enough to share.”

We’ll keep you informed as we learn more.
