Concord director steps down as the shooter’s future remains uncertain

Firewalk is "pessimistic".

A new report from Kotaku suggests that Concord director Ryan Ellis has stepped down as the future of the 5v5 shooter remains in limbo.

Sony made the decision to pull Firewalk’s Concord from sale within two weeks of its release, also issuing refunds to those who had purchased it.

Kotaku says its sources say that Firewalk employees are “pessimistic” about what’s to come, with some already asked to pitch what the future of the shooter could be. Others believe that mass layoffs may soon occur at the studio, which reportedly consists of approximately 160 people.

The outlet suggests Ellis stepped down from his role as game direct last week.

“Ryan deeply believed in that project and bringing players together through the joy in it,” a former colleague told Kotaku. “Regardless of there being things that could have been done differently throughout development…he’s a good human, and full of heart.”

Concord was taken offline on 7 September.
