Rooster Teeth employees targeted by Albuquerque man in home invasion

Rooster Teeth’s Gavin Free (above, left) and his girlfriend, former Rooster Teeth employee Meg Turney (above, right), were the victims of a home invasion that resulted in the death of the invader.

The Albuquerque Journal reports that Christopher Giles, 30, travelled over 700 miles from Albuquerque to Austin, Texas on 26 January. There, he broke into the home of the couple house and fired shots. Free and Turney hid in a closet to escape Giles.

Giles then left the home and was confronted by police officers who opened fire. It’s unclear if Giles took his own life or if he was killed by the police.

“A search of Giles’ cellular phone identified various notations identifying Megan Turney and Gavin Free by name,” a detective later reported. “Furthermore, threatening thoughts were recorded by Giles and directed toward Gavin Free, i.e., ‘I want Gavin Free to die alone, with no children.’ ”

Both Free and Turney took to Twitter today to comment on the matter.

Our thoughts and best wishes go out to the couple.
