Resident Evil 4 demo has secret Mad Chainsaw Mode difficulty

Do you dare?

Today’s Resident Evil 4 demo has a secret in the form of a treacherous Mad Chainsaw Mode difficulty.

The difficulty setting, which is described by Capcom as “extreme” and cranks up the challenge, is a random encounter and has to be accepted before being put in place.

Our best recommendation to those wanting to try the Mad Chainsaw Mode is to start a new game, quitting out if you’re not getting a special splash screen and trying again until you do.

We’ve found it takes between 10-15 attempts to get the special mode; a video of us attempting to play it is below.

The Resident Evil 4 remake heads to Windows PC via Steam, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, PS4 and PS5 from 24 March 2023; we previewed it earlier in the week.
