Randy Pitchford accused of assault by Claptrap’s voice actor

David Eddings, the original voice of Borderlands‘ Claptrap, has accused Gearbox head Randy Pitchford of assault.

Eddings and Pitchford have been involved in a back in forth over Twitter for days now, with Eddings first explaining he wouldn’t appear as the voice of Claptrap in Borderlands 3 over a payment dispute. His words caused Pitchford to head to the social media service to call the voice actor “bitter and disgruntled.”

Following Pitchford’s latest set of comments, Eddings returned to Twitter to allege he was assaulted by his former boss.

“I had a lot of mixed feelings when asked to reprise the role of Claptrap late last year and eventually realized I was willing to put differences aside and do something cool for Borderlands fans with my friends at Gearbox,” Eddings wrote in a Twitter thread. “I ultimately offered to do it for ‘free’ in exchange for past royalties owed plus an apology for something I’ve never spoken about publicly until now: Randy physically assaulted me in the lobby of the Marriott Marquis at GDC 2017.”

Eddings later added that, “I think Randy’s been on tilt the last few years.”

Back in January of this year, former Gearbox employee Wade Callender alleged that Pitchford held parties in which “adult men have reportedly exposed themselves to minors.”

We’ll keep you posted on the situation as it develops.

Borderlands 3 heads to Windows PC, Xbox One and PS4 in September.
