Quantum Break’s Shawn Ashmore is in Alan Wake 2

But, like Sam Lake, not as who you think.

Quantum Break‘s Shawn Ashmore will appear within Alan Wake 2, though he won’t be reprising his role as reluctant hero Jack Joyce.

This time around, Ashmore will feature as Sheriff Tim Breaker.

If that title and surname sound familiar, it’s because they should — the original Alan Wake featured Sheriff Sarah Breaker, and an update to Alan Wake Remastered had an extra Easter egg that referred to her father, Sheriff Frank Breaker.

As we stated back when we discovered the Easter egg, Frank Breaker wasn’t Bright Falls’ Sheriff — at least, as far as we know. From former texts, Frank was a former cop in New York, and an agent of Control‘s titular Federal Bureau of Control. Is Tim Breaker displaced as well?

The long and short of it is, we don’t know.

“I’m very excited to be part of the game with my friends at Remedy Entertainment,” Ashmore said of his new role.

“Our last adventure was Quantum Break, and me personally, I’ve been waiting to play Alan Wake 2 ever since I finished the first game I don’t know how many years ago. I’m sure there’s a lot of people out there that are as excited as I am. So please stay tuned.”

Remedy’s Sam Lake — the face of Max Payne and the genius behind the Remedy Connected Universe — will also appear in-game, but as Alex Casey and not Payne himself.

Alan Wake 2 heads to Windows PC, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X and PS5 on 27 October 2023. Check out our recent Summer Game Fest preview here, and our interview with Sam Lake and Kyle Rowley here.
