PS5 system update 20.02-02.20.00 improves system performance

PS5 system update 20.02-02.20.00 was released overnight and “improves system performance”, though Sony didn’t detail was was specifically impacted.

In the midst of reports that Rest mode is causing problems for players, the “system software update improves system performance.” We’ve not run into the Rest mode problem — whereby the power-saving mode ultimately ends up causing system instability — so we’re unable to test if the update addresses the problem.

The PS5 is also reportedly suffering from a download queue issue that means a factory reset is necessary to download games impacted by the bug. It’s also unclear if the system update addresses that concern.

The PS5 is available now — we reviewed it here.
