PS5 owners without PlayStation Plus criticise downtime compensation

And rightfully so.

PS5 owners without a PlayStation Plus subscription are today criticising Sony for PlayStation Network downtime compensation that they won’t receive.

Those who have a PS5 but have refrained from taking advantage of free games, cloud saves, and online play will not be compensated over the PlayStation Network’s nearly one-day outage over this past weekend. The kicker is, those players were unable to access physical or digital games during that time, just like those on PlayStation Plus.

“Everything was down,” wrote a user on ResetEra. “People that game share (like me) were locked out of their entire digital library, including offline games. You didn’t need PS Plus to be affected.

“Thinking I’d be a cool uncle I decided to game share my PS library of 600 digital games with my little nephew only to be locked out from playing every single one of them for over a day,” the user continued. “With nary a word from Sony about what’s happening thousands of dollars worth a games I purchased where held in limbo. It really sucks and makes me regret buying into Sonys ecosystem and digital media in general.”

“It isn’t fair for non-subscribers who also had no access. I couldn’t use my [PlayStation] Portal, I couldn’t play Infinity Nikki after a certain point, people who actually pay for FFXIV couldn’t play, some digital titles were unavailable, people who just bought their console couldn’t set it up,” wrote another. “This was way more widespread and giving just the subs something sucks.”

“I don’t have PS Plus but still couldn’t play the games I wanted to,” added another on reddit. “Guess I’m a f***ing second class citizen.”

As we reported earlier, Sony will offer current PlayStation Plus subscribers five additional days of subscription for the outage. Those without PlayStation Plus will receive nothing.
