PS5 low-power mode “much lower” than on PS4

A PS5 lower-power mode will be more efficient than that on PS4, resulting in “lower power consumption,” Sony today detailed.

The news comes as Sony confirmed it had joined the Playing for the Planet Alliance, one focused on helping the UN Environment committee meet its sustainable development goals.

“I am… very pleased to announce the next generation PlayStation console will include the possibility to suspend gameplay with much lower power consumption than PS4 (which we estimate can be achieved at around 0.5 W,” Sony Interactive Entertainment President & CEO, Jim Ryan, wrote “If just one million users enable this feature, it would save equivalent to the average electricity use of 1,000 US homes.”

Last Friday the Global Climate Strike aimed to raise awareness and prompt change in response to the global climate emergency. Here in Australia, it was reported that rallies across the country were well supported; Melbourne’s rally had an estimated attendance of more than 100,000 people, while Sydney had more than 80,000 attendees.
