The PS5 doesn’t support native 1440p resolution

The PS5 will not support 1440p resolution natively, Sony has confirmed with IGN Italy.

Sony detailed that the PS5 will work on 1440p displays but will either downscale from a 4K output or upscale from a 1080p one. The move means the PS5 will follow in the footsteps of the PS4, even though a number of PS4 games actually run at that midpoint resolution.

Sad news for those of us with a 1440p display, but at least the PS5 will still work on it, eh? Sony’s powerhouse next-gen console can output at a maximum of 8K, or more realistically, 4K and 120FPS (frames-per-second) on HDMI 2.1-complaint devices.

The PS5 heads to store shelves on 12 November.
