PS5 backwards compatibility to support around 100 PS4 games at launch

The PS5 will support around 100 backwards compatible PS4 games at launch, Sony’s Mark Cerny has declared.

As part of a livestream detailing the PS5’s capabilites, Cerny said that 100 PS4 games, “ranked by playtime” are being prepared for backwards compatibility. “Almost” all of the titles will be ready for launch, with more to come afterward.

Explaining why some of those older titles won’t be ready for launch, Cerny said that, “some game code just can’t handle it,” and confirming that “testing has to be done on a title by title basis.”

In comparison, the Xbox Series X will support all Xbox One and the currently library of backwards Xbox 360 and original Xbox titles at launch. They’ll even have HDR through machine learning.

We’ll have more on the PS5 all through the morning.
