Prince of Persia Sands of Time Remake won’t get next-gen versions

Prince of Persia The Sands of Time Remake will not offer true next-gen versions, and instead will be playable on both Xbox Series X and PS5 using backwards compatibility.

“You will be able to play the game on next-gen with the help of the backwards compatibility,” Senior Producer Annu Koul confirmed with Stevivor. “We haven’t mentioned [specific next-gen versions] because there’s nothing special we’re doing.”

It’s admittedly a strange decision, but a valid one — the Xbox One version of The Sands of Time Remake will of course be playable on both Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X, automatically enhancing the title where it can, while the PS4 version will of course be backwards compatible with PS5 as well.

Prince of Persia The Sands of Time Remake will be published to Windows PC, Xbox One and PS4 on 21 January 2021. We previewed the game here, speaking with Koul and Game Director Pierre-Sylvain Gires.
