PornHub is interested in buying Tumblr

It’s been a rough year for Tumblr. When the platform made an attempt to remove porn from its library, users angrily left the service and found new homes. With patronage plummeting, owner Verizon looks ready to sell. Thankfully, the service may have found a new buyer in PornHub.

First, the Wall Street Journal reports that Tumblr’s current owner Verizon is preparing to sell the service, citing a failure to meet revenue targets as the cause. Those failures are likely due to a questionable policy change that banned adult content in the form of photography, illustrations and videos of sexual acts, representations of full-frontal genitalia and female-presenting nipples.

Tumblr’s failures of late may actually be good news for those who used to visit the site for that very same banned content — now, BuzzFeed reports that PornHub is looking to buy the service. Presumably, PornHub wouldn’t place the same restrictions on content that currently exist.

“Tumblr was a safe haven for those who wanted to explore and express their sexuality, adult entertainment aficionados included,” PornHub President Carey Price told BuzzFeed News. “We’ve long been dismayed that such measures were taken to eradicate erotic communities on the platform, leaving many individuals without an asylum through which they could comfortably peruse adult content.”

We’ll keep you posted on what’s happening.
