Pokemon Sword and Shield announced for Nintendo Switch

Pokemon Sword and Shield were today announced for Nintendo Switch during a special Pokemon Direct early this morning.

The game takes place in Galar and (of course) features three new starter Pokemon called Grookey, Scorbunny and Sobble. Grookey is a Grass-type, Scorbunny a Fire-type and Sobble a Water-type. You can check them out below.

“Galar is an expansive region with diverse environments — an idyllic countryside, contemporary cities, thick forest, and craggy, snow-covered mountains,” Nintendo said, describing Galar. “The people and the Pokémon who live there work together closely to develop the industries in the region. Fans will have the opportunity to visit various gyms in the Galar region in their quest to become champion.”

Visually, the game looks more detailed than Pokemon Let’s Go, a title recently released on Nintendo Switch. You can take your first look at Pokemon Sword and Shield below.

Pokemon Sword and Shield heads to Nintendo Switch later this year.
