Pokemon Go pandemic distances return as New Zealand remains in lockdown

"We’ve heard you and understand that this has been a welcome benefit to many players."

Pokemon Go pandemic distances have been returned to 80 meters around the world as one of the countries that prompted a roll back of changes, New Zealand, remains in a level 4 lockdown.

“Trainers – we’re looking forward to sharing our plans as a result of the task force on September 1, but one thing does not have to wait,” an update from developer Niantic reads. “From now on, 80 meters will be the base interaction radius for PokéStops and Gyms globally.”

The task force mentioned in the update refers to one established by Niantic after fan outcry over proposed changes that kicked off in the US and New Zealand.

“Thank you to everyone who made your voices heard,” Niantic continued. “We’ve heard you and understand that this has been a welcome benefit to many players. We’ll share more next week.”

New Zealand’s current COVID-19 outbreak began in Auckland, where a level 4 lockdown is in place until at least 11.59 pm NZST on 31 August.

Pokemon Go is currently available on iOS and Android devices.
