PlayStation Stars Level 4 members get prioritised support

And lower-tier members in Japan aren't thrilled with that.

PlayStation Stars Level 4 members will received prioritised support, Sony has recently revealed.

As found by Automaton (and translated by Twitter), Sony has advised — at least in Japan, where the loyalty program is already active — that ““when contacting PlayStation Customer Support, [Level 4 members] will be given priority in the chat order”.

The loyalty program stars off users at Level 1; Level 4 is the highest tier of the program.

Users quickly responded (also translated by Twitter).

“I don’t think it’s a good idea to prioritise customer support,” said yossy_44. “I bought a PS5 just for Final Fantasy 16 – is it okay for someone like that to be put aside for later?”

“Customer support must be equal,” wrote Akutarosu. “There are people who like a few titles and play them, and there are gamers who can’t afford money or time.”

Other users offered better uses for loyalty program prioritisation, such as introducing PlayStation Stars in the PS4 era so high-ranked users would have had an easier time purchasing a PS5.

“If this functionality had been first introduced 10 years ago,” wrote user battlefield18, “giving people with a high level of priority access to buy a PS5, reselling wouldn’t have been as bad as it has been.”

PlayStation Stars heads to Australia on 13 October; it’s unclear if this same prioritised support offering will come along with the launch.
