PlayStation Productions is Sony’s new TV & film studio

PlayStation Productions is a new television and film studio that’s been opened by Sony Interactive Entertainment.

As reported by the The Hollywood Reporter, the studio’s goal is to give its “worlds life in another spectrum.”

The new production studio will be led by Assad Qizilbash, who’s worked in PlayStation’s marketing department for the past 11 years, and will be overseen by SIE Worldwide Studios’ chairman, Shawn Layden. Much like the formation of Marvel Studios back in the day, PlayStation Productions will be developing projects and then producing them internally rather than licensing IP out to external production studios.

“We’ve got 25 years of game development experience and that’s created 25 years of great games, franchises and stories,” Layden said of the new venture. “We feel that now is a good time to look at other media opportunities across streaming or film or television to give our worlds life in another spectrum.”

PlayStation Productions has set up shop in the Sony Pictures lot inside Los Angeles’ Culver City and is already hard at work on several projects.

We’ll have more on PlayStation Productions’ film and TV work as details are made available.
