PlayStation Event 2013: New Sucker Punch game, inFAMOUS: Second Son, confirmed for PS4

At today’s PlayStation Event, Sucker Punch confirmed that inFAMOUS: Second Son will be heading to the PS4.

The game sounded oddly like Watch Dogs when first revealed, focusing on the high number of security cameras in the world today, commenting on how often we are all tracked in our daily lives.

inFAMOUS: Second Son takes a divergence from Watch Dogs in that you’ll get to combat hi-tech security, Infamous style… I guess.

Brian Fleming, Co-founder & Producer, Sucker Punch Productions, shed some light on inFAMOUS: Second Son revealing some juicy details. Players will take control of Deslin Rowe, a 24 year old convinced he’s destined for greatness, yet someone who has never really achieved anything. He grew up on the outskirts of Seattle, which is where the game is set and players will be able to explore many of the famous landmarks of the city.

After rescuing the passengers of a bus crash, Deslin discovers that he has somehow gained the ability to control and transform into smoke. He is unaware of how he gained these powers, but believes it must be related to his quest for greatness.

inFamous: Second Son is set seven years since the adventures of Cole McGrath and the world is a very different place. Anybody that exhibits the potential to become what is now dubbed a “bio-terrorist” (not in the Resident Evil sense we hope) is placed in the custody of the Department of Unified Protection (DUP). DUP are a government agency whose sole purpose is to ensure that a repeat of the events of Empire City and New Marais never occur. Deslin now finds himself sqaurely in DUPs sights and as someone who has never really respected authority, he decides to put up a fight.

The trailer shows off the thematic elements at play in inFAMOUS: Second Son and the questions it asks regarding freedom and liberty. The trailer was also created entirely with Sucker Punch’s in-house game engine. Looks gorgeous.
