Overwatch’s Pink Mercy shows how to do a breast self-exam

Overwatch‘s Pink Mercy character and skin have been used to help demonstrate how to perform a breast self-exam (BSE).

The (unauthorised) images below were created by LinaLines on Tumblr and shared with the Overwatch Subreddit.

Medical professionals largely agree that women should use both breast self-exams and mammography as part of their personal breast cancer screening strategy.

“Breastcancer.org still believes that BSE is a useful and essential screening strategy, especially when used in combination with regular physical exams by a doctor and mammography. About 20% of the time, breast cancers are found by physical examination rather than by mammography,” the non-profit site writes. “We recommend that all women routinely perform breast self-exams as part of their overall breast cancer screening strategy.”

The Pink Mercy skin was offered to players between 9-22 May, with all proceeds (or most, anyway) donated directly to support breast cancer research.

Overwatch is currently available on Windows PC, Xbox One and PS4.
