Overwatch 2 heroes instantly unlocked upon release

Behind a Battle Pass no more.

Overwatch 2 heroes will be instantly unlocked at release and no longer locked behind a Battle Pass, Activision Blizzard has today announced.

“This means that heroes will no longer need to be unlocked through the Battle Pass to be playable in all game modes,” the publisher said in a statement. “New players will still need to complete the first-time user experience to unlock heroes as they learn the ropes. Once the heroes from the original Overwatch roster have been unlocked, all Overwatch 2 heroes will also become available.”

That’s not all in terms of Battle Pass changes. A new Mythic Shop will let players “to work toward past and current seasonal Mythic hero skins as you progress through the Premium Battle Pass”.

“You get to decide how far into each Mythic skin you would like to build,” Activision Blizzard continued. “So, for example, if you don’t want to fully unlock all of a skin’s colour or model variations, you can spread your progression towards other Mythic hero skins.”

Overwatch 2‘s upcoming tenth season will start to reward players with Coins as they progress through free and paid Battle Passes, and weekly challenges will reward Battle Pass XP rather than Coins.

Overwatch 2 is currently available on Windows PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, PS4, PS5, and Switch.
