Overwatch 2 DDoS attack cripples launch

Oof.

Overwatch 2 is out today, but a DDoS attack means that not very many of us are actually playing it.

Blizzard’s Mike Ybarra this morning has confirmed the company is under a distributed denial-of-service attack that’s preventing us from teaming up and getting our shots in.

“Unfortunately we are experiencing a mass DDoS attack on our servers,” Ybarra said. “Teams are working hard to mitigate/manage. This is causing a lot of drop/connection issues.”

Simply put, a DDoS attack means that Blizzard’s servers are being flooded with malicious traffic, thereby preventing us players from connecting and playing as normal.

Our advice? Hold off joining the queue and keep your eyes peeled for updates on the situation. We’ll of course report back as more is known.

Overwatch 2 is technically live, a free-to-play title available on Windows PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, PS4, PS5 and Switch.
