Overwatch 2 brings back loot boxes in Season 15

Yay?

Overwatch 2 will reintroduce loot boxes into the mix when Season 15 launches later this month, Blizzard has today announced.

Sticking to the mechanics of the original Overwatch (of which Overwatch 2 sorta still is?), loot boxes will offer up a range of random collectibles including skins, sprays, emotes, and voice lines. Unlike the original Overwatch (of which Overwatch 2 sorta still is?) loot box mechanics will be more transparent.

“We’re keeping it fun while being transparent about what’s inside and the rate of various drops from opening each box,” said Gavin Winter, senior systems designer, said of the reintroduction of loot boxes.

Blizzard also confirmed that players will receive one legendary cosmetic in at least one of every twenty loot boxes. There will also be a duplicate protection system that will offer up another cosmetic of equal value.

Season 15, which launches on 19 February here in Australia, will also introduce a new hero in Freja.

Overwatch 2 is a free-to-play title available on Windows PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, PS4, PS5, and Switch.
