The Outer Worlds has a 38GB day one update on Xbox One

The Outer Worlds has a day one update that requires a 38GB download on Xbox One and 18GB download on PS4, developer Obsidian has confirmed.

For those going for the digital version of the game, the day one patch will be included in the pre-load for the title, which means you won’t be downloading a separate patch for the title. Physical copies, however? Well, that’s a download.

“Expect a title update on launch day for those who purchase physical copies of both Xbox and PS4 that will include tweaks and optimization fixes,” Obsidian confirmed. “This patch will be an estimated 38 GB download for Xbox players, and an estimated 18 GB for PS4 players. For digital purchases on both Xbox and PS4, the patch will be included in the pre-load of the game. To experience the game in the best way possible, please make sure to install this update before playing.”

It’s likely the difference in patch sizes is becuase The Outer Worlds runs at a native 4K on Xbox One X and 4K upscaled from 1440p on PS4 Pro.

Moreover, Obsidian also confirmed launch times around the globe, as follows:
