North American Xbox One consoles can now receive over-the-air TV with special Hauppauge adapter

North Americans jealous of the Xbox One Digital TV Tuner in regions like Australia and the UK now have an equivalent service in the form of the Hauppauge WinTV-955Q.

Microsoft and Hauppauge have partnered to bring over-the-air TV to Xbox One for $79.99 USD. According to Xbox Wire, those in North America who’d like to use the service must be members of the Xbox One Preview Program.

The WinTV-955Q is compatible with Xbox One and is available at retailers like Amazon, Best Buy, GameStop and Micro Center. The two companies will also develop a tuner designed exclusively for Xbox One, and at a lower price point.

“In the next few months,” Microsoft said, “Xbox will be partnering with Hauppauge to release a lower cost version of this tuner, the Hauppauge TV Tuner for Xbox One, retailing for MSRP $59.99 [USD], and available to everyone in the U.S. and Canada.”

Xbox’s Larry ‘Major Nelson’ Hryb showed off the Hauppauge tuner in a new video:
