Nintendo Switch: A “home system first”, it also supports amiibo figurines

Speaking with IGN, Nintendo confirmed that the Nintendo Switch is a “home system first”.

That said, the home system isn’t the Switch dock.

“The dock is not the main console unit of Nintendo Switch,” Nintendo clarified. “The main unit of Nintendo Switch is the unit that has the LCD screen, which the two Joy-Con controllers can be attached to and detached from. The main function of the Nintendo Switch Dock is to provide an output to the TV, as well as charging and providing power to the system.”

The unit will support amiibo figurines in either form, it seems.

“If a Nintendo Switch game supports amiibo then the Nintendo Switch home gaming system will as well,” the Nintendo representative added.

Nintendo declined to comment on whether or not the Switch’s LCD screen is a touchscreen or not.

Nintendo Switch heads to store shelves in March 2017.
