Nintendo introduces digital game sharing on Switch

And it's called the Virtual Game Card system.

While Xbox and PlayStation have had ways to share digital games for years now, the Switch will finally add the feature in its final months.

Announced today, digital game sharing will be handled by Nintendo’s Virtual Game Card system, and according to the publisher, is as easy as sharing actual, physical game cartridges.

Through the system, a single user account can “eject” and load owned digital titles into different Switch consoles connected to it. Moreover, those in a family group will be able to share titles between those accounts on various Switch consoles.

While it sounds phenomenal, the service still comes with some caveats. Only one game can be shared at a time, and a loan is permissible for 14 days.

Digital game sharing will be locked to up to eight accounts in a single Nintendo Family Account group. One game will be allowed to be shared at one time, and to be able to share it, both Switch consoles must connect to the same wireless network.

Got a family member in a different city? Nintendo’s digital game sharing feature isn’t for you.

Issues aside, it’s still pretty neat that Nintendo is finally allowing digital game sharing. The feature will unlock at the end of April.
