Nintendo acquires Luigi’s Mansion 3’s Next Level Games

Huge news for the Canadian studio.

Nintendo has acquired Luigi’s Mansion 3 developer Next Level Games, a recent press release confirms.

“NLG is a video game development company based in Vancouver, Canada which has nearly two decades of experience creating video games for various console platforms,” Nintendo’s release begins. “More recently, NLG has worked exclusively with Nintendo in developing software titles for the Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo Switch systems, including titles in the critically acclaimed Luigi’s Mansion series of video games.”

Next Level Games’ other titles include the likes of NHL Hitz Pro, Super Mario Strikers, Mario Strikers Charged, Spider-Man Friend or Foe, Captain America Super Soldier and Metroid Prime Federation Force.

“The Acquisition will have only minor effects on Nintendo’s results for this fiscal year,” Nintendo’s statement continues. “Nintendo will start reflecting the earnings forecasts with respect to NLG for the next fiscal year and thereafter.”

The acquisition is expected to be finalised on 1 March 2021.

Luigi’s Mansion 3 is available now on Nintendo Switch; we reviewed it here.
