New Star Trek animated shorts will celebrate TAS

That's "The Animated Series" for those not in the know.

Five new Star Trek animated shorts will celebrate the 50th anniversary of Star Trek The Animated Series (TAS), Paramount has announced.

The shorts will cover The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine and Discovery — likely amongst two other shows — and will be stylised like Filmation’s classic TAS outing.

Confirmed for the shorts are classic actors reprising their roles; Jonathan Frakes will feature as Commander William Riker, Doug Jones as Captain Saru, and Armin Shimerman as Quark. You can take a look at what those specific characters will look like in the TAS style above and below.

The shorts will come from Casper Kelly, known for his work on Star Trek Short Treks and Adult Swim’s Too Many Cooks.

More information on the animated shorts will come at Star Trek Day, later this year. We’ll keep you posted as we learn more.
