New ROG Xbox Ally handhelds will offer an Xbox experience via Windows 11

But will support "leading PC storefronts".

New ROG Xbox Ally handhelds have been announced by Microsoft and ASUS and will boot directly into Xbox via Windows 11.

“Introducing the ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X – two new premium handhelds that combine the power of Xbox with the freedom of Windows 11,” the pair said.

“This holiday, players can discover another way to play as we combine the power of Xbox with the freedom you expect from Windows 11, created together with ASUS. And this is only the beginning.”

“With the Xbox Ally and Xbox Ally X, players can look forward to an approachable gaming experience that travels with you wherever you go, featuring several new and first-of-their kind features on both devices—from an immersive Xbox full screen experience, an aggregated gaming library with access to installed games from leading PC storefronts, and more,” Microsoft continued.

Here’s what to expect from two versions of the handheld:

  • ROG Xbox Ally: AMD Ryzen Z2 A Processor, 16GB of RAM, and 512GB of SSD storage
  • ROG Xbox Ally X: AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme processor, 24GB of high-speed RAM, and 1TB of SSD storage

Pricing and further Australian availability has not yet been detailed. The units are expected for this holiday season.
