NES Golf removed from Switch in its latest update

Close to a year after its inclusion on Nintendo’s home-portable hybrid, NES Golf has been removed from the Switch.

“Switch update 4.0.0 stubs ‘flog’ — all code to launch it removed, and flog executable overwritten with (signed) garbage,” console hacker SciresM confirmed via Twitter.

The removal of the software furthers belief that the code was included on the Switch as a digital omamori, something kept for a year to bring good luck. Physical omamoris, usually amulets, are replaced each year.

NES Golf was included on the Switch via a file title “Flog” and could only be played on 11 July, the date of former Nintendo President Satoru Iwata’s passing.
