Naughty Dog reportedly lays off 25; Last of Us multiplayer “on ice”

Ruh roh.

A new report from Kotaku says that Naughty Dog has allegedly laid off at least 25 staff members whilst placing The Last of Us’ multiplayer title “on ice”.

The site cites two sources “familiar with the situation”, who both say that at least 25 contracted developers will no longer have their jobs at the end of October.

Further, Kotaku alleges that severance packages won’t be offered to those laid off, and that the studio on the whole is “being pressured to keep the news quiet”.

Finally, the sources allege that — while not fully cancelled — Naughty Dog’s announced Last of Us multiplayer title is “basically on ice at this point”. This new report follows one in May 2023 that suggested work on the title was being scaled down.

We’ll keep you informed as this situation progresses.
