Minecraft ray-tracing beta starts this week

Minecraft ray-tracing beta starts this week, developer Mojang has announced in partnership with Nvidia.

Available from 16 April, likely 17 April here in Australia, the beta is for Minecraft with RTX, or ray-tracing. Teased in promotional material for the upcoming Xbox Series X, the Minecraft with RTX beta will be available on Windows PC.

Whereas standard Minecraft materials only have two properties — colour and opacity — those in Minecraft with RTX will have six — colour, opacity, height, roughness, light emission and metallic…um, ness.

To take part in the Minecraft with RTX beta, you’ll need to download the Xbox Insider Hub on your PC. A beta end date has not yet been disclosed.
