Minecraft cross-platform play: Nintendo says yes, Sony no to Microsoft

Minecraft will sport cross-platform play between PC, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch, but not PS4.

The reason why? Sony, according to Windows Central’s Jez Cordon, via Twitter:

“The unification of Minecraft across platforms will transform the Minecraft experience everywhere from a game to a platform, providing simple access to massive community servers, community creations from the Minecraft Marketplace, Realms, dedicated servers and more,” Microsoft said of cross-platform play via press release.

Xbox 360, Wii U and PS3 versions of the game will be considered legacy editions and will not support the feature.

Minecraft‘s cross-platform update heads to various platforms this August.
